Happy Workplace: Myth or Reality?
We like to grumble and complain about how bad it is with our workplace. We are not happy with the most of our bosses and colleagues. We work long and laborious hours while others seemingly cruise around in their cushy jobs. That makes us flaming mad!
But, we know that, in the back of our mind, not all is gloom and doom, and we can actually do something about it. We can improve our work place to make it more livable because, after all, it is our second home, isn’t it? It is always easier to sit in the proverbial corner, and sulk. But, becoming proactive, and improving the environment of your workplace is not all that hard, either.
So, what makes a happy work place? Sense of belonging. This sense of belonging can be expressed in many different ways, but all point to the same thing in the end. People talk about good communication, being part of the team, sense of being accepted, encouraging and supporting each other, and having no fear at work. These are some of the things that describe the sense of belonging.
Many agree that a good communication chain, in both directions, is vital element to a happy place to work. In an environment where sense of belonging is present, employees are not afraid of voicing their opinions about their work in order to improve it. Directions or communications from the employers are clearly relayed to all employees without any misunderstanding. All can eagerly and positively discuss the goal of their company without a fear of reprisal.
A confidence, knowing that you are part of the team, is another part in the ‘sense of belonging’. When your opinions and ideas are respected, and you are confident that you are an important part of the team, your job performance will increase. You will want to work!
No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes here and there, including at work. Knowing that there will be a help, encouragement, and positive direction coming to you will greatly enhance your experience at work. It will make the workplace a community where people want to come and spend their time.
