Do Birthday Turtles Wear Silly Hats?
Franklin the Turtle is turning twenty-five – and would love to see you at his big birthday party!
This coming Saturday, September 17th, the Franklin Children's Garden on Centre Island will be abuzz with crafts, the music of Splash 'N Boots, storytelling, and of course, children with birthday cake in their tummies. Yum!
The star of the day's festivities will be honoured with the unveiling of a new topiary feature for his garden, as well as readings of his many stories by our very own TPL librarians. His very first story, the one that started it all (Franklin in the Dark), will be read aloud by his creator, author Paulette Bourgeois, will illustrator Brenda Clark drawing as you listen. Her finished drawing will be raffled off to a lucky listener!
It's sure to be a fun afternoon, hosted by the City of Toronto, TD Financial Group, Kids Can Press, and Toronto Public Library. If you'd like to join in the celebration, be sure to visit toronto.ca/torontofun to make a free reservation at Toronto FUN Online. (Enter barcode #1921409) Please note that while the event is free, regular ferry fees to the island apply.
(And yes, by the way, he is still a kid – turtles live a long time, you know.)
