Little Artist at Home?
Do you have a child who loves to draw and paint? Then read on!
Children learn through art and other forms of play. Art opens up children’s imaginations, develops their creativity and teaches them to think openly. This year’s amazing TD Summer Reading Club artist, John Martz, developed his love of reading and art when he was very young, and he’s a great inspiration.
Check out this video of John and his dog, Gary, where John describes how important books are to him and his art, and he explains his creative process.
Other activities in addition to playing that build reading skills in children are talking, singing, reading and writing. This summer, make a point of exploring different activities with your child to help them discover their interests.
If you’re feeling inspired and want your child to meet John in person to get expert advice, then drop by one of John’s remaining workshops, where he’ll demonstrate drawing techniques and inspire kids to create their own works of art. Full program listing can be found here. Happy Drawing!
Try This! Create wordless picture books with your child. Collect your child’s drawings, put them in a binder and encourage your child to make up a story about them.
