Happy Roald Dahl Day!
What do Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG and Matilda have in common? Besides being awesome books, they’re all written by author extraordinaire Roald Dahl. September 13 marks the birthday of Roald Dahl. Fans across the world will celebrate his life and books with festivities. This year’s extra special as it also marks the 50th anniversary of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
We’re joining the festivities by celebrating Toronto Roald Dahl Day with Small Print on October 19th at the Toronto Reference Library’s Bram & Bluma Appel Salon. You’re invited to join us for an afternoon of stories, music, crafts and activities, hosted by Dennis Lee. Free golden tickets are required to attend.
Roald Dahl is best known for his books, but did you know he served as a pilot with the Royal Air Force (England) during World War II (which helped inspire his first novel, The Gremlins) and he wrote the screenplay for the James Bond movie, You Only Live Twice. If you’re interested in learning more about Roald Dahl, we have great books about him.
