Sophie's Studio LogoSophie's Studio Workshops get kids aged 8 – 12 excited about creative writing by exposing them to published authors who put their imaginations to the test with fun, interactive writing challenges.

Last fall, graphic novelist J. Torres was a popular facilitator, with participants commenting that, "he is nice and I learned lots of things that I didn't know," and "I have new ideas for my own comics." He will return this spring, along with Claudia Davila, Philippa Dowding, Susan Hughes, Rukhsana Khan, Andrew Larsen, and Kevin Sylvester to select branches across the city.

Kids loved writing their own comics in J. Torres' Sophie's Studio workshop.

Space is limited, so contact the branch early to register as spots fill quickly. In the meantime, pick up one of these great titles by the workshop authors:

Luz Makes a Splash The Island Horse King for a Day The Luck of Jude Jake and the Giant Hand Neil Flambe and the Bard's Banquet Bigfoot Boy 2 The Unkindness of Ravens

Sophie’s Studio is generously supported by the Toronto Public Library Foundation and a bequest from long-time library lover Sophia Lucyk. It was created to support literacy, creativity and writing skills in children from a young age.
