Time for One More Trip Before Vacation is Over

It's easy to get excited before you leave for vacation.  You browse through travel magazines, make notes from guidebooks, and dream of holiday wonders. But what do you do once you're back home and vacation dreams start turning in to distant memories?  How do you make that excitement last?

You could try planning another trip…to the library!

A trip to your local library might not sound as exciting as jetting off to parts unknown but it can be an excellent way to keep up some of that vacation momentum:

World travellers can discover even more about the countries that they have visited by browsing through history and geography books.

Foodies can find international cookbooks to try recreating one of the delicious and exotic meals that they enjoyed while abroad.

Nature lovers can aim to figure out what kind of birds they saw at the cottage each morning by looking through nature guides.

Beachgoers can revisit those calm days spent by the water by checking out some World Music or some soothing sounds of relaxation.

And those who just love a good story can browse through the fiction sections to find a tale set in the places that they visited or check-out some folklore from around the world.

That's exactly what I did when I got back from a recent trip to Ireland.

An Irish Folktale in large display format.

One of the highlights of my trip was a visit to the National Leprechaun Museum in Dublin where I heard many an enchanted tale of fairies and wee folk.  My favourite one was about hidden gold, red socks and one very clever leprechaun. I happily revisited the magic of that story when I found Linda Shute's version in the book Clever Tom and the Leprechaun : an Old Irish Story in the Toronto Public Library catalogue.

My trip might have been a few months ago but I can recapture some of that vacation excitement each time I read about those clever leprechauns or tell a tale of my own Irish adventures.      (And I am definitely going to add the story "Red Socks Mark the Spot" to my story-telling repertoire!)

So no matter where your travels might have taken you this summer, remember that a trip to the library can help you to keep that vacation excitement going, even after you've come home again.
