Kermit

Kermit the Frog has so many human attributes. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has an honourary degree.  He has an ex and has also managed to come across as a bit of a cad in the process.

You can hardly begrudge him his right to privacy but his birthday is a bit of a mystery. We know the year, 1955, but more specific details than that are hard to come by with any certainty. I have come across arguments for May 9th (IMDB trivia) and February 29th (leap day, get it?). Though, I think the fact that both his creator Jim Henson, and Steve Whitemire, the puppeteer who replaced him after Henson's death, birthdays fall on Sept 24th, that settles it. Coincidence you say? I tell you it's a sign!

You might think of Muppets as a television and film phenomenon but they will surprise you both in terms of the number of (at least tangentially) germane books you can find in TPL and where those books will pop up!

Doing a book only keyword search for "Muppets" will net you 73 titles (as of Sept 2015). Of these a whopping 43 are labelled for adult use while only 29 are for children.

It may not come as a surprise to you that the Osborne collection (specializing as it does in children's literature) has 24 Muppet related titles but did you know that the Arthur Conan Doyle collection has 10? As these books are in special collections, you will need to there go in person to read them.

It's good to show your kids that grown-ups have all sorts of reasons to read about Muppets!

Now here are a few non-adult book recommendations.
