Sidewalk Flowers Wins the GG for Children’s Illustration
Congratulations to JonArno Lawson and Sydney Smith for winning the Governor General's Literary Award in the Children's Literature (Illustrated Books) category! Sidewalk Flowers was my favourite to win – the images are so gorgeous and tell this wordless story beautifully.
Along with the $25,000 prize, this title will join the list of honoured books from previous years, including Jillian Tamaki's This One Summer, Matt James' Northwest Passage and Isabelle Arsenault's Virginia Wolf.
The complete list of GG winners and finalists can be found here. If you'd like to read more award-winning books, you should head over to the Award Winners section on TPL's website which also includes some of the biggest literary prize winners in children's literature.
Lawson and Smith will be visiting North York Central Library to discuss Sidewalk Flowers on November 9th. Lawson is also running a Sophie's Studio creative writing workshop at Thorncliffe on Saturdays in November.

Thanks for the head’s up, Nanor. The time has also been updated on the original listing.
