Fifteen Minutes a Day

We all have busy lives and sometimes things we know we should be doing just get pushed back to tomorrow or the day after.

When it comes to our children though, doing something today can be another fun way to connect with them and make a difference in their development. The good news is, it doesn't need to take longer than 15 minutes in a day.

And there are so many activities you can do with children of all ages!

  • Ask your child to write down the grocery list.
  • Challenge them to see how many times the written word occurs between your home and the store.
  • Now that winter has arrived, write messages to each other in the snow. Using water and food colouring will make it easy to read.
  • Read a book or a chapter in the morning, right after dinner, or at bedtime. Take turns adding sound effects or acting parts out.
  • Make muffins together. They are fast, easy and between reading the recipe and measuring the ingredients, your child is benefiting in many ways.
  • Bring up some old pictures or pull out a photo album. Tell stories about when they were young or you were. Discuss what has changed.

Don't forget, it can go both ways! Maybe your child wants to tell you a story before bed. Or decide what will go into those muffins. Be open to possibilities and you will be having so much fun together that it may well be more than 15 minutes by the time you stop.
