Celebrating with Sandra Boynton
Everybody loves a good celebration! From traditional holidays to "silly days" to everything in-between, the world loves to have a reason to celebrate. So today, let's celebrate the birthday of an amazing cartoonist and children's author who knows a thing or two about celebrating in style: Sandra Boynton.
If you follow Sandra Boynton on social media (Facebook, Instagram), you know that she loves a good celebration. She quite often posts a specially created cartoon to illustrate whatever special day it happens to be. And her beloved animal characters don't just put the "festive" in to big festivities like St. Patrick's Day and April Fool's Day, they also commemorate all of those "silly days" that the world has started to recognize. So if you can't remember if today's the day we celebrate Pizza, Pi, or Pianos, just take a look at Ms. Boynton's Twitter feed and plan your party accordingly.
Today of course, the party will be for Sandra Boynton herself as we celebrate her 63rd birthday. And what better way to join in that celebration than by borrowing one of her books or some of her music? All of Ms. Boynton's hippos, pigs, and other animal friends are also waiting for you in the browsable board book collections at any Toronto Public Library, so come play with Pookie, sing "la la la" with three pigs, or "twirl with pig if you know how."
And let's all sing in celebration of Sandra Boynton's own special day, using the author's own now famous words:
Hippo-Birdie-Two Ewe!
Thank you Sandra and many happy returns…and check-outs too!*
(*That's just a bit of library humour as our little gift to someone who never fails to make us smile…no matter what day we're celebrating!)

So cute. I’ve still kept a few of the greeting cards she illustrated, from back in the day.
So you remembering “celebrating” with Sandra Boynton even before social media! 😉 Thanks Jennifer!
