Summer Starts Saturday!
How does your child’s summer look so far? Perhaps it’s like the blank canvas above. Or it’s a calendar that’s already packed with camp, playdates, travel, summer school and city exploration. Or maybe it’s somewhere in between. Regardless of the category, we hope you’ll find time on Get Your Summer Read On Day (Saturday, June 17) to bring your child to your Toronto Public Library branch to register for the TD Summer Reading Club.
An annual tradition in which libraries across Canada participate, the Club offers a variety of fun reading-related activities for kids and keeps them reading all summer long. When a child signs up for the Club, they’ll get a special notebook and web access code to keep track of their summer reading. Kids are encouraged to choose their own books to read – exploring what they find interesting – and then come back to the library and tell staff about what they’ve read.
As an added bonus for registering on June 17, kids will be entered in a draw to win a pair of Blue Jays tickets! But these aren’t just any Jays tickets, our two sets of winners will be enjoying the game from the Comfort Clubhouse at Rogers Centre. Speak to staff at your local branch for more details.
As an added, added bonus, post a photo on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram of your child registering for the TD Summer Reading Club on Get Your Summer Read On Day, and your family will have the chance to win a set of Club goodies. Full contest details here.
After June 17, our calendar is definitely packed with a bunch of fun, free activities for kids, as usual. Of course there’s everyone’s favourites such as storytimes, music, magic, bingo and crafts. But there’s also scavenger hunts, stop-motion animation, puppet shows, special visitors and dance, plus other surprises.
If your child reads and speaks in French, be sure to ask staff about the French Reading Challenge and upcoming Club programs in French.
The Club is accessible, too and there are many ways your child can participate.

See you soon! And see you often!
