What is TCAF?

Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) isn't just for teens and adults. It's also for kids!

This year, the two day extravaganza of comics and graphic novels will run from May 12, 2018 to May 13, 2018 at Toronto Reference Library (789 Yonge Street).

TCAF's programming for kids will be held at the Marriott Yorkville (90 Bloor Street East). Kids and their paren't/guardians can look forward to interactive workshops, engaging storytimes and other fun activities. Admission is free.

Comics and Graphic Novels

Some Paren'ts/Guardians may be apprehensive about their children reading Comics and Graphic Novels. Comics and Graphic Novels are not just books with superheroes. Some are versions of well-known plays, others are works of non-fiction. There is a wide variety of genres that are available in comic and graphic novel form. Also, rest assured that there are benefits to reading comics and graphic novels.

Draw Your Own

Encourage your child to draw their own comic or graphic novel. Perhaps there is a story your child enjoyed. Challenge your child to draw a graphic novel/comic of it. Your child will need to create phrases/text for the characters and draw images that support the storyline. This activity can help build your child's critical thinking skills and artistic abilities.

FREE Graphic Novels and Comic Books

Alice (TPL's Children's eBooks selector) has highlighted some great graphic novels and comic books that you can downloaded and read on your smartphone or computer. All that is needed is a valid Toronto Public Library card to access. You can find more digital comics and graphic novels in Hoopla and OverDrive.
