October is Canadian Library Month!

October 1, 2018 | Teresa | Comments (2)

October is Canadian Library Month (CLM), a time to celebrate and appreciate the valuable role that libraries play in our society. Established in 2006 by the Canadian Library Association, CLM aims to provide β€œan opportunity for Canadians not familiar with their local library to come down and experience all the services available to them."

Canadian Library Month 2018

Libraries in the 21st century are about way more than just books. We are community hubs that offer free educational programs, services, and resources all while upholding and facilitating the free expression of information and ideas. That's a lot to think about! So this October, visit your local library and show your support for all the amazing work that they do!

If you come to visit any of Toronto Public Library's 100 branches this month (and all year round) you and your child can access some amazing programs and resources, all for FREE!

High Quality Children's Programs

TPL has a wide variety of high quality children's programs that run throughout the year. From our ever popular Ready for Reading storytimes, to our highly engaging After School Clubs we have a program that is sure to delight children of all ages. Best of all, they are all free!

 Museum and Arts Passes

Did you know that with a valid adult library card you can check out a Museum and Arts Pass (MAP)? Each pass is valid for three months and gives you and your family free admission to select museums and cultural institutions across the city. Check out our website for more information on participating venues.

Reading and Homework Help

Did you also know that Toronto Public Library offers free homework and reading help for children? Leading to Reading is a free program open to children in Grades 1-6 who are reading below their grade level. Each week, students meet up with a volunteer who can help them with their reading, writing, or homework. Not every branch hosts Leading to Reading so be sure to check out our website for participating branches and schedules. If you cannot make it out to a branch, check out Brainfuse, a free eLearning platform that offers online homework help for children with professional tutors. All you need is a valid library card to get started today!

As you can see, there is a lot to discover at the Toronto Public Library. So, if you are in the neighbourhood this October drop by and say hello. We would love to meet you!
