January marks Family Literacy Month at Toronto Public Library and we’re inviting you and your family to join in the celebration! We’ve planned a month packed with fun, free programs to enjoy at your local library branches, designed a game board for the entire family to enjoy and assembled a list of wonderful reads.

Literacy is a family affair and the entire family plays a very important role in supporting literacy development. But literacy is more than just reading books! Other fun and simple activities such as playing and music can support the development of children’s literacy skills and foster a love of reading. Visit your local library branch throughout January for fun programs.

Don’t forget to pick up your copy of Family Literacy challenge (game board). There are prizes to be won! Download Family Literacy Challenge (PDF) now or pick one up at your local branch. There are 15 fun activities the whole family will enjoy. Try to do at least 10 activities from January 1 to 31 and check off each activity you complete. Show your completed game board to a library staff member for a ballot. Fill out a ballot for your chance to win a fun Family Prize Pack.
