New and Noteworthy Picture Books, August 2019

We are dedicated to bringing the best and brightest books to our library collections. Here are some picture books we are really excited about that will be hitting shelves soon.
A Plan for Pops by Heather Smith. Illustrated by Brooke Kerrigan. 2019. Ages 4-7.
Grandad and Pops both have different interests and hobbies that they share with their grandchild Lou. One day Pops has a bad fall and must use a wheelchair. Lou and Grandad create a plan to make Pops happy and enjoy his hobbies again.

Sweety by Andrea Zuill, 2019. Ages 3-7.
Sweety is a naked mole rat with thick glasses, big front teeth and has a unique interest in fungus identification. Some of Sweety’s classmates don’t understand her and don’t want to play with her at recess. With the help of her Aunt Ruth, Sweety embraces who she is and finds a friend in the process.
Goodbye Friend! Hello Friend! by Cori Doerrfeld, 2019. Ages 4-8.
A gentle story about two best friends saying hello and goodbye; at first to the changing seasons, and then to each other when one moves away.
The Go Away Bird by Julia Donaldson. Illustrated by Catherine Rayner. 2019. Ages 3-7.
The Go-Away Bird does not want anyone in her tree and wants to be left alone. But when the Get-You bird arrives, she realizes that having friends is not such a bad thing after all.
When I Found Grandma by Balasubramaniam, Saumiya, 2019. Ages 4-7.
When Grandma comes for a visit, Maya is excited at first. But then, Grandma makes homemade sweets (instead of cupcakes), speaks too loudly and wears a sari to her school, and worst of all calls her “Mayalakshmi.” Can Maya and her Grandma embrace their differences?
