Design-A-Bookmark Contest
TPL’s annual Design-A-Bookmark Contest is underway! All children ages 13 and under are invited to submit a design to their local library branch by October 31st. Contest entry forms are available in branches, on bookmobiles, and can be downloaded from the children's websites: Ready for Reading Birth to 5 and TPL Kids.
2019 Grand Award Winner: Kaylie, Age 4, Bayview Branch
How are bookmarks judged?
Entries are judged on theme, originality and design. The Elizabeth Cleaver Design Award also recognizes outstanding artistic merit.
Bookmarks are judged at each branch in three age categories:
- Up to 6 years
- 7 to 9 years
- 10-13 years
One winner is selected from each age group. All branch winners then compete to be one of TPL’s 12 Grand Award winners or 4 Elizabeth Cleaver Design Award winners. The 16 winning bookmarks for 2020 are printed and will be available in all TPL branches in late February.
What do kids win?
If a child wins at their local library branch, they win a prize book. If they are one of the 16 winners at the next round of judging, they win a prize book, 100 copies of their bookmark, and an invitation to attend a splendid Evening of Celebration at the Toronto Reference Library in February.

Here are some examples of winning designs. Take a look, but remind your child that their own ideas are best.
