On Monday, January 27 the American Library Association named the winners of the prestigious Newbery and Caldecott Awards for children's books.

Newbery Medal

The John Newbery Medal is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to children’s literature. This year, for the first time, the award was given to the author of a graphic novel.

Randolph Caldecott Medal

The Caldecott Medal is awarded to the most distinguished picture book of the year. This year, the prize was awarded to two-time Honour winner Kadir Nelson.

Bear Came Along, illustrated by LeUyen Pham; written by Richard T. Morris

 

Double Bass Blues

Going Down Home with Daddy

Going Down Home with Daddy, illustrated by Daniel Minter, written by Kelly Starling Lyons
