We tweaked our magazine subscriptions a little and we have received a few issues of Food Network and of Hello! Canada. These were popular requests from patrons and the public. .

We have been receiving New Scientist for some time. It is a great read for anyone interested in the sciences. If you do read it regularly, you will see that many newspapers pick up stories from this magazine. Read it first here!

I like these magazines because they are cool! Make says it brings the do-it-yourself mindset to all the technology in our life. Dwell, well Dwell is about decorating your downtown place. Adbusters says it is for "culture jammers". Curious? Visit our branch to check them out.

A selection of our Canadian magazines – Spacing about the urban landscape, Maisonneuve, a quarterly about arts, ideas and opinions, and Outpost on adventure travel. I like their tagline – Tan your mind, travel for real.

Our magazines for adults and teens are on the 2nd floor – adults on the east side  wrapping around the College Street and Huron Street windows. Teen magazines are in the Teen area, west side. You can borrow magazines for 1 week, even the latest issues. Visit us soon to browse and borrow our magazines!

  1. The second-last sentence in this posting is the MOST important sentence of all. The fact that magazines may be borrowed (i.e. taken from the library) for a week is very disturbing. Why? Because it is unfair to the general public in that this policy of removing current periodicals from the premises means that only ONE person has the privilege of reading a weekly magazine such as Macleans, Time or Newsweek, while it is current. (Similarly, only FOUR people theoretically are able to read a monthly magazine while it is current.) Libraries historically have been places for people to go to read the latest magazines and keep up with the news. Not so anymore in the Toronto Public Library system. The latest magazines are nowhere to be found; they are out on loan.
