Canadian Citizenship: Application

November 9, 2010 | Maciek | Comments (1)

After making sure that you meet all requirements for applying for citizenship, you can submit your application. There is a detailed guide available on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website to assist you with filling the document.

Your application MUST be accompanied with 2 signed photos (not just any photos, and not signed in any way – see requirements here), proof of eligibility (Record of Landing or Confirmation of Permanent residence, copy of the permanent resident card) and 2 pieces of ID plus one piece of photo ID (the more the better). You also have to pay the processing fee (online, all credit cards accepted), and attach receipt of payment.

It is important that you send everything (to this address) immediately after signing – if the application is signed more than three months before it's received, it will be returned. If you make a mistake of any kind, the documents will be returned to you and you will be able to correct it. The only problem is, it means a significant delay (few months).

Can one tell how much time the whole process takes? How do you know if your applications is approved? Find out in our next post!

  1. I applied for Canadian Citizenship one year ago. I received RQ on September 2010 and I think I have to wait for another one year to get an interview, then I have to do the test; and then and then… It is realy a very slow process. I feel that there is no value for time and no respect for the people as well. This system should be reviewed and improved ASAP.
