Tibetan Materials at your Library | བོད་སྐད།
Hello! བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས།!
There are over 6,000 languages spoken in the world. We have more than 200 in Toronto alone! Tibetan is spoken by people from Tibet, which is a small autonomous region within China. The region is known for its breathtaking scenery and religious sanctuaries.
Fun fact: Did you know that along Tibet's border with Nepal, you can find the towering Mount Everest – the world's highest mountain above sea level?
Parkdale, an area in the south part of Toronto, is home to the largest Tibetan population in Canada, and the Parkdale library is the only branch that has a small collection in the Tibetan language. Browse through our books, DVDs, and CDs. You can even access them online as eBooks and eVideos!
Make sure you sign up for a library card at any of our 100 branches to get access to these materials. Can't reach any of these branches? No problem! You can place your select items on hold to come to a branch near you.
If you don't know how to read Tibetan, you can always brush up on the country itself. Here are some great ways of experiencing the culture.
