North York Public Library is proud to present Johanna Skibsrud, winner of the 2010 Scotianbank Giller Prize for her novel The Sentimentalists, on Saturday, May 28. Skibsrud's father, a veteran of the Vietnam War, kept the traumatic memories of his war time experiences to himself for thirty years. The horrific memories he finally shared with his daughter helped to inspire the novel about Vietnam War veteran Napoleon Haskell, a chain smoking alcoholic, who is still dealing with the psychological fallout of his experiences in Vietnam long after the war has ended.
