Film Club: Mira Nair’s The Namesake

NamesakeThe International Indian Film Academy Awards takes place in Toronto from June 23-25.  This is a great event for fans of Indian Cinema – and the North York Central Library Film Club is joining in the celebration.  The Film Club is screening Mira Nair's The Namesake on  Monday, June 13 at 6:00 p.m in the North York Central Library Auditorium. 

Starring Kal Penn (yes, the guy from the Harold and Kumar films), Tabu, Irrfan Khan, Jacinda Barrett, Zuleikha Robinson, and Sahira Nair, this touching film explores how a first-generation immigrant family from India faces the cross-cultural challenges with their American-born children. 

The screenplay by Sooni Taraporevala is based on the acclaimed novel, The Namesake, by the Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, Jhumpa Lahiri. 

 Film Rating: PG-13. Running Time: 122 minutes. Admission is free.   There will be an informal discussion after the film, time permitting. Please visit the Browsery Desk on the main floor of Central Library or call 416-395-5672 to register. Seating is limited.
