Free Science Events in Toronto for October 2012
The Science and Technology Department of North York Central Library compiles a monthly calendar of free science and applied-science events in Toronto. Applied-science includes health, gardening, pets and food; all subjects found in the department's collections. Here is the October Calendar:
This month's highlights include:
- Oct 6 – HarbourKids: Folk, a family program that will inspire imagination and creativity in kids under 12
- Oct 13 – Grow your own Mushrooms and Attracting Birds to Winter Gardens, two events at the Evergreen Brick Works that are sure to appeal to backyard enthusiasts
- Oct 21 – Technology in Health Care: Friend or Foe, a lecture that addresses the impact of technology on health care processes
- Oct 28 – Is our Weather Becoming More Extreme?, a lecture that looks at Canada's changing weather patterns

There are five talks in this series, ending with “Eggs, Nests and Baby Dinosaurs: New Discoveries from South Africa,” presented by the ROM’s David Evans, Nov 26 at North York Central Library, 7 pm.

Also five talks, on subjects ranging from black holes to dark matter and the evolution of galaxies.
Also, on October 24, 7 pm at North York central, noted UK astronomy writer Stuart Clark will be speaking about his new book, Sensorium of God, a novel which explores the work and ideas of Isaac Newton, Robert Hooke and Edmond Halley.
