The Evolution Revolution
The Darwin anniversary year in 2009 (it was the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his best known book, On the Origin of Species) raised the profile of this groundbreaking scientist, and the renewed interest in his work has continued in the three years since.
This fall the Toronto Public Library has partnered with the University of Toronto to present the Exploring Evolution lecture series. On Tuesday December 4 the final talk will take place at the North York Central Library.
Our speaker is Dr.Spencer Barrett, Canada Research Chair in Evolutionary Genetics and professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto. Dr. Barrett is a world leader in the field of plant evolutionary biology.
I've watched the BBC series on the evolution of plants, How to Grow a Planet, twice in the past few months. I'm fascinated by the power of plants to adapt to changing environments and to exploit those changes to their benefit. I can't wait to hear Dr. Barrett speak on this topic.
Please join us in the Concourse of the North York Central Library at 7:00 pm on Tuesday December 4 for The Evolution Revolution: Why Darwin's Insights Matter Today.
