North York Central Library Blog

The Science and Technology Department of North York Central Library compiles a monthly calendar of free science and applied science events in Toronto. Applied science includes health, gardening, pets and food; all subjects found in the department's collection. Here is the February Calendar.

February's's highlights include:

• February 8: Free Toronto Reiki Class, part of The Healing Tean- Toronto Reiki and Counselling Services.
• February 9: The Chelyabinsk Airburst Decoded: Impact Hazards from Small Asteroids, part of the Royal Canadian Institute for the Advancement of Science. The speaker will describe what we have learned about the Chelyabinsk airburst in the year since it occured and what it may tell us about future impacts on the Earth.

• February 16: Born a Queen or Born a Worker? Genes, Brains and Behaviour of Honey Bees, part of the Royal Canadian Institute for the Advancement of Science. The presentation will explore the speaker's laboratory's recent progress on understanding the relationship between genes, worker behaviour, and evolution in the honey bee, Apis mellifera.
