“Nothing is so beautiful as Spring…
When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush"
– Gerard Manley Hopkins
We'll wait a while longer for shoots of any sort, I'm afraid. In the meantime, why not plan your garden, even it's just in your head? The library has hundreds of books for gardeners, would-be gardeners and just plain dreamers.
Here are some books for those of you longing to banish winter:
Private Edens, Zen Gardens, Talk about Contemporary Gardens, Dream Gardens, Creating a Courtyard Garden, Flowers in the World's Most Beautiful Gardens,The Inward Garden: creating a place of beauty and meaning, The Small Garden Handbook, The Garden Source.
If you've moved past the dream stage and really can't wait to get your hands dirty, North York Central Library has a program on landscaping with trees and large shrubs on April 29th from 1:30-3 p.m. in room 1. If you lost trees in the ice storm, this could be an excellent start to re-greening your garden.
It won't be long now…
