Free Science Events in Toronto for March 2015
The Science and Technology Department of North York Central Library compiles a monthly calendar of free science and applied science events in Toronto. Applied science includes health, gardening, pets and food; all subjects found in the department's collection. Here is the March calendar (PDF).
March's highlights include:
- March 2: Wearable Tech: Privacy, Identity & Payments, The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada will present its view on wearable technology and data. Then a panel will discuss the opportunities and challenges.
- March 19: Eating with the Seasons, join nutritionist Jamie Slavin to learn about the health benefits of eating seasonally.
- March 25: IPCC Climate Change 2014 – Mitigation of Climate Change, the speaker will summarize the main findings from the United Nations Intergovernment Panel on Climate Change Working Group III.

March's highlights include:
- March 5: Herbal Remedies for Aches and Pains, at Fairview branch. A discussion about commonly available herbs that can be safely taken as teas that have anti-inflammatory and pain relief qualities. Demonstration on how to make a topical preparation for aching joints is included in the workshop.
- March 9: Healthy Eating on a Budget, at Mount Dennis branch. Learn how to make healthy choices at the supermarket.
- March 12: Arduino for Total Beginners, at Fort York branch. Learn how to use an Arduino micro-controller. This program is for those who know nothing about Arduino, micro-controllers and electronics.
- March 24: Excel Basics Part 1, at North York Central Library. Learn to open, create and edit a simple table using Microsoft Excel 2010. Basic keyboarding and mouse skills required.
- March 26: Custom Home Building, at North York Central Library. Thinking of building your own home or making extensive renovations? Ed Frezza will be providing a visual presentation of the stages of his own custom home building experience. He will share tips and answer questions from those who are thinking about building a custom home.
