Free Science Events in Toronto for August 2018
The Business, Science & Technology Department of North York Central Library compiles a monthly calendar of free science and applied science events in Toronto. Applied science includes health, gardening, pets and food; all subjects found in the department's collection. Here is the August calendar (PDF).
August's highlights include:
- August 5: Insects and their Habitats, an entomologist will uncover the elusive insect residents of High Park.
- August 15: ExploreTech Toronto Meetup, ExploreTech Toronto is about exploring and celebrating diversity in the tech industry; hear from a variety of speakers who are working on interesting tech projects.
- August 23: Humanizing AI for Healthcare, entrepreneurs, clinicians, researchers and thought leaders will discuss the impact of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

August's highlights include:
- August 1: Get Outside with Your Environmentalist in Residence at Scarborough Civic Centre branch. Spend some time in the sun with your EnvIR outside the Scarborough Civic Centre library with some nature-based fun and games!
- August 3: Digital Drawing: An Intro to Graphics Tablets! at Eglinton Square branch. For ages 10+. In this hands-on workshop, we will experiment with Wacom Intuous graphics tablet and learn about different digital image formats.
- August 7: The Secret Life of the Brain – The Aging Brain at Barbara Frum branch. A startling new map of the human brain has emerged during the past decade of neuroscience research, contradicting much of what was previously believed.
- August 18: How to Improve Senior's Memory at Woodside Square branch. Dr. Ping Zou from Nipissing University will discuss Alzheimer's disease, the stages of Alzheimer's disease, memory loss and ways to improve memory.
- August 27: Robot Ninja Challenge! at Morningside branch. For ages 7-14. Can you navigate Dash and Sphero through a ninja course and get them to the other side unseen? Learn about basic coding and block coding and test out some robots.
