New for Book Lovers: A Summer Reading Club for Adults

June 20, 2011 | Miriam | Comments (0)

Every year, TPL launches its summer reading club for kids, but who decreed that adults can't get in on the action? This year Deer Park Branch introduces its summer reading club for adults. So–head to 40 St. Clair East tomorrow night, June 21 at 6:30 pm to get a jump on your summer reading.

Special guest author Dawn Promislow will discuss her new book Jewels and other Stories. These thought-provoking stories are set in apartheid South Africa of the 1970s. Some protagonists are black, others white. In all cases, Promislow's carefully crafted stories provide a window into a brutally racist society. This book is getting great reviews so don't miss Dawn's talk.

On July 12, 26, also at 6:30,  we take a look at the five nominees for Evergreen Awards, and on August 16 we cap things off with Julie Kirkpatrick, who will discuss her book The Camino Letters.

Register in person or at 416-393-7657. Great prizes, too, so don't miss out! After a great discussion, wend your way home and enjoy the rest of the warm summer evening with a new book to read, and a cold glass of your favourite adult beverage.

Also at Locke Branch, Wed, Jul 20 and Wed,  Aug 17, 7 pm. Call 416-393-7730 for info.
