What's On at the Library

Well, the book has launched, and we’ll be announcing our full
roster of Keep Toronto Reading programs next Thursday.

“The book” of course, is this year’s One Book title,
"Fahrenheit 451", which is the centerpiece of this year’s festival.

We launched it last week with a fun photo op
at Yorkville Fire Station.  You may have
caught City Librarian Jane Pyper and Fire Chief Jim Sales on the news or in the
paper, or heard Jane on Metro Morning. And
I hope you saw that great “Everybody’s Reading One Book” ad featuring
firefighters from Yorkville station in the March 2 edition of Toronto Star. 

Here’s a sneak preview of all the fascinating things we’ll
have on offer this April:

• Our programming kicks off on April 2 with a Ray
  Bradbury tribute event at the Merril Collection. This is also the launch of a month-long
  Bradbury exhibit hosted at the Collection.
• Coming up, we’ll have programs about censorship and book banning, the
  dire effects (or not) of modern technology, and memory and storytelling. Plus entertaining events for kids,  including fire department outreach officers
  reading their favourite stories to kids.
• Something brand new this year: an alternate reality game
  called KTR 451. It asks you to join “the Literary Resistance” and take on three
  missions critical to the survival of books. 
  All who complete the missions will be recognized as Resistance Heroes at
  a fun event (drinks involved!) at the Appel Salon on April 22^nd. 
• We’ll also be asking you to post YouTube
  videos answering the question, “If the library were burning, which book would
  you save?” 
• If you’re a TTC rider,
  check out our One Book tweets posted to video screens in all subway
  locations.

book clubs across the city are discussing "Fahrenheit 451", 1,000 students are
reading the book along with us, and of course it will be the April selection on
Book Buzz.
