This is Toronto Public Library's third year of participation in Culture Days. As in past years, for 2013, we have a great lineup of Culture Days @ the Library events.

For those who love dance, the range of activities makes it hard to choose–there are eleven different dance events. Here is are just three that look wonderful and interesting

Dance Heritage Celebration September28, 11:30 am at Flemingdon Park Branch. Roma dance culture is really diverse wich geographical regions in many countries. Iana Komarnytska and Paromita Kar present a wonderful public
celebration of the variety and richness of Roma dance heritage.

Evyenia Karmi is again offering her popular demonstration workshop of bellydance, allowing participants to observe a short choreography followed by a step by
step breakdown of movements. This is a wonderful way to discover the mystique and glamor of a beautiful and ancient dance form. You can'take part on Friday September 27 at Highland Creek (11 am) or on Satruday, September 28 at Brentwood (10 am). Not to be missed.

  1. Hi Xavier:
Thanks for your comment on my blog post, which was indeed highly selective. I appreciate the opportunity to highlight a couple of the Culture Days poetry and spoken word events.
At Mount Pleasant, there is Honey Novick’s “Tell Your Story” on Fri., Sept. 27, 1:30 pm.
At Thorncliffe there is “Diasporic Genius,” which is about language, music and creativity (Sat., Sept 28, 2 pm). There is also storytelling/theatre at College/Shaw branch: Peanut Butter People: The Cinderella Project, Sat., Sept. 28, 3 pm.
The Tamil theatre event at Malvern (Saturday) is also a kind of poetry/dance performance. At Annette Branch (Rolling thunder), North York Central (Red Bear) and York Woods (Red Slam), the programs feature Native artists and all have a multidisciplinary character which includes storytelling and spoken word.
Once again, thanks for your comment. Between the library’s offerings and the hundreds of events on the Culture Days website, I am sure you will find more than a few programs that you might enjoy or want to investigate.
    Miriam
