Storyfire Blazes Through Toronto (Literally!)
One of the Library's best-kept secrets is that a number of the librarians who help you with your e-books, answer your tricky reference questions, deliver brilliant book talks and children's programs are also expert storytellers.
There has long been a culture of storytelling at Toronto Public Library, developed over a period of years by a group of skilled and talented people. But opportunities for telling stories to public audiences are not that numerous. Enter Storyfire!
Storyfire launches the Toronto Storytelling Festival with two days of great storytelling events at venues across the city (March 28-29).
For Toronto Public Library, Storyfire will see librarian-storytellers gather at four branches across the city to entertain and delight audiences of all ages. A fifth branch, Morningside will host the East End Storytellers. All programs, March 29, 2-3 pm.
There are many gifted storytellers in Toronto and they will be congregating at the Storytelling Fesitval so be sure to visit the website for more information.
Although it helps to have talent and a good memory, storytelling can be learned–the main prerequisite is an interest in the doings and foibles of human beings. And the library has many wonderful books to get you started. Just enter storytelling.
