National Indigenous History Month 2025
June is National Indigenous History Month, and June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. It's time to honour and learn more about Indigenous histories, languages, cultures, experiences and worldviews. Celebrate this important month with us!
Visit the new Indigenous Initiatives webpage
We are excited to share the launch of the Indigenous Initiatives webpage. The website consolidates and increases access to information and resources related to Indigenous Initiatives that have previously been in multiple locations. Information includes upcoming programs, Indigenous-focused collections, booklists, blogs, podcasts and more.
The website invites both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples to explore the wide range of resources and events that increases cross-cultural understanding by building community, deepening insights and broadening perspectives.
Attend library programs
Discover free events and programs on a wide range of topics that feature Indigenous authors, creators and performers. If you can't make it into a branch, watch recordings of past programs.
Read a book from our 2025 Read Indigenous booklists
Another great way to mark National Indigenous History Month is with a good book—or many! Our annual Read Indigenous booklists include recommended reads for all ages by Indigenous authors, illustrators and Knowledge Keepers. All of the titles are selected in collaboration with the Indigenous Advisory Council.
This year’s list is dedicated to the memory of The Honourable Murray Sinclair, who passed away on November 4, 2024. Murray Sinclair was an Anishinaabe lawyer, judge, senator and Chief Commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC), and a driving force on Indigenous rights and justice in Canada. His memoir, Who We Are: Four Questions for a Life and a Nation, is available to borrow through our catalogue.
