Bishop Morocco Bishop Morocco
Bishop Morocco (2010)

When ex Tangiers and Deadly Snakes axeman Jim Sayce met up with electronic musician Jake Fairey (aka Fairmont), magic was sure to happen. It took the form of Bishop Morocco, one of the best shoegaze Prog Pop bands Toronto's produced in a while.

D-Sisive Dsisive
Vaudeville (2010)

Toronto MC D-Sisive has been representing the scene for over a decade now, but took a lengthy break after a series of family tragedies forced him to step back from the mic. Thankfully, D-Sisive has returned, and with a vengaence, producing a string of critically acclaimed albums, including 2010's Vaudeville.

Maylee Todd MayleeTodd
Choose Your Own Adventure (2010)

After a string of successful collaborations with Toronto bands like Woodhands and Henri Fabrege and the Adorables, Maylee Todd decided it was time to put out an album of her own. So she got together a gang she called Pegwee Power and released one of the catchiest records of 2010.

  1. I find it seriously sad that despite all the great music coming out of Toronto these days that the three picks for June 2012 are from the year 2010. Not to disparage them, they’re solid records, but isn’t their anything more timely to make the current picks of the month?

  2. Hey Seamus
You’re absolutely right about how great the Toronto music scene is! Part of the reason we’re so excited to run this program!
The Local Music collection at the Library is pretty big, and so this series of posts is really intended just to highlight some of the recordings in the collection (not necessarily the most recent).
That being said, what recent recordings from our collection would you recommend? Its always great to share feedback!
