A New TD Gallery, a New Exhibit

As you can see, our new TD Gallery space is coming along nicely. It's just another step in the revitalization of the city's largest public libary, Toronto Reference Library.

Construction continues at a furious pace in anticipation of our first exhibit in the new space:

James Bain A Passion for History: the Legacy of James Bain
Opening Summer, 2011
TD Gallery, Toronto Reference Library

The TD Gallery re-opens with a remarkable exhibition of rare maps, prints and books donated by the family of James Bain.  Toronto Public Library's Chief Librarian from 1884-1908, Bain recognized the Library's role in preserving our cultural heritage.

As a Collector in his own right, Bain amassed a rich inventory of Canadiana, which has been donated by his family to the Library, where his legacy is preserved in the Special Collections at the Toronto Reference Library.

Visit the newly renovated TD Gallery and experience a fascinating selection of Canada's past. (Call Answerline or check the TPL website or follow us on Facebook for Opening dates, still to be announced)

  1. External work on the Toronto Reference Library’s $34 million revitalization program has become a lot more noticeable now that the building’s new entrance is taking shape. Most of the renovation work has been hidden by hoarding for months, and progress on the library’s dramatic glass entrance cube at the corner of Yonge Street and Asquith Avenue seemed to be moving at a snail’s pace during the winter.
