A Bird’s Eye View of the Brick Works

Brick Works Panorama 2

This picture of the Brick Works was taken on a May day from the path that circles the upper edge of the park. The first time I walked up here, I kept saying to myself [once I was able to breathe again, that is]: "This is absolutely gorgeous! I can't believe that I am right in the middle of the city."

Evergreen Brick Works is, I think, one of Toronto's brightest jewels and one of the first places I would show to any visitor. The transformation of this space and its buildings is an ongoing delight. Although the market attracts many visitors on Saturday mornings throughout the summer, this is now a year-round destination. As well as being accessible on foot, by bike or by car, you can also take either the free shuttle bus that leaves from just north of the Broadview subway station [7 days a week] or the  Davisville TTC bus on Saturdays and Sundays.

Of course, the park that we see today has been many years in the making. The Urban Affairs Library has several reports on its history and planning:

Here are a couple of more photos from last spring that I just can't resist adding in:

  1. I have lived in Toronto for more than 35 years and have never been here! It didn’t look very attractive from the Don Valley Parkway and I’ve never bothered to check it out. I may do that this weekend. Thanks for this.
