The World Remembers Project at Toronto Reference Library
Toronto Public Library is honoured to take part in The World Remembers project, a global commemoration of those who lost their lives in WWI.
The World Remembers project will display the names of those who lost their lives in installations in participating nations. More than 9 million names of the WWI dead will be displayed around the world; in schools, online and on public buildings. Each name will appear at a designated time and will circle the world through participating countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, France, Turkey, the Czech Republic and the British Indian Army.
In each of the WWI centenary years, the names of those who lost their lives will be displayed in the 100th year after their deaths. In 2014, only the names of those killed in 1914 will be displayed. At sunrise on November 11th 2018, the last of the millions of names will appear time zone by time zone around the world.
This year, the Toronto Reference Library will display some of the names on its Cube screen in the entrance to the library. The names will appear from dusk (8:30pm) to dawn every night between October 20 and November 11, 2014.
For more information or to find the exact minute that any name will appear visit theworldremembers.ca . Toronto Public Library will be offering a wide variety of programming to mark the centenary of the First World War.
