May 16, 2016 | Alice | Comments (7)

This summer, we have six contests designed to put your creativity on display. There will be one prize awarded in each contest and the winners will receive a very attractive pair of B&O BeoPlay H6 On-Ear Headphones.

Watch for these contests coming up this summer:

#Bookface Contest (All summer – ends September 2)

Bookface involves strategically lining up your face (or another body part) alongside a book cover so that there appears to be a melding of life and art.

Short Story Contest (June 27 – July 10)

Write what you want, tell the story you want to tell.  Maximum 750 words.

The Changing Face of Toronto Contest (July 11 – July 24)

Take a look at The Changing Face of Toronto Virtual Exhibit. Choose a photo that interests you and think about the story told by the photograph. Imagine yourself into the photo and write a story, poem, song, or monologue that tells the story of the picture you choose. Maximum 750 words.

Song Writing Contest (July 25 – August 7)

Are you a songwriter? Let’s hear it! All styles of music are welcome—with lyrics or without lyrics. Submit your original song. The song has to be made available to us either via YouTube or a sound file hosting site such as SoundCloud or Bandcamp, and cannot be submitted as a sound file directly.

Poetry Contest (August 8 – August 21)

For this contest, you’ll learn about a poetic form called anaphora and write a poem using that form. Don’t worry, there will be examples! Maximum 750 words.

Creative Places Contest (August 22 – September 2)

Where in Toronto do you feel most creative? Is there a spot where you feel inspired to draw and paint and build and make plans for even more drawings, paintings and designs? In this contest, you will use any form of visual art to depict the place in Toronto where you feel most creative.

Psst…Did we mention the sweet headphones you can win?

  1. “There you are! All fit for a Goddess!” Belladonna said fixing up Arianna’s hair.
“Thank you, you look lovely too,” Arianna replied, with a deep breath, she and her friend stepped on to the stage of cheering Enchanters.
“Lady Arianna,” James said. “The people would like you to talk about darkness and light.”
    The audience was quiet now.
“Well,” Arianna said. “I think, that light and darkness are two of the same whole, just as darkness shouldn’t consume light, light shouldn’t overpower darkness.”
    Arianna paused before continuing.
“I think,” She continued. “That weather you are a creature of Dark, or of Light, you are you, and your paren’ts, your friends, your siblings—no matter if they are evil or not, it doesn’t shape who you are.
“I think, that both light and dark, hope, and despair, blessings and curses, help shape us, after all, you need sadness to grow, but you need happiness to make life a bit more enjoyable,”
    The audience murmured.
“I think…” Arianna said with a deep breath. “That Light and Darkness, are beautiful, after all, look at Belladonna. A being born of Dark, yet like me, she is a Goddess of this world.”
Belladonna smiled and thanks. Arianna smiled back and turned the crowd once more.
“I think, that if someone tells me that you are evil because you are born of Dark, or good because you are born of Light…” Arianna closed her eyes.
“I’ll just say that they are absolutely wrong.”
    Arianna smiled. The crowd cheered.

  2. Hi! I was just wondering if we HAVE to live, work, or go to school in the city of Toronto? I live in Richmond Hill but can easily get to a Toronto Public Library branch…
