Man Booker Prize longlist announced
So, the Man Booker Prize longlist was released yesterday, triggering a fluster of acquisitions over here at the library:
That's not to mention the other titles that we already had in our collection.
Of course you'll want to read as many of them as possible, so that you can participate knowledgeably in the ongoing debates about whether the inclusion of U. S. authors has compromised the Booker, and whether the judges should have included Delillo, MacEwan, Tremain and/or Barnes. But there'll be competition – the holds lists for all these books are heating up already, and you may have to resign yourself to a bit of a wait.
But here's a hot tip: we have compiled a list of 157 past Man Booker award-winners and nominees, and many of them won't be nearly as hard to get. If you sort the list by Release Date instead of by Relevance (see image below), all of this year's nominees will be moved to the top of the list. (And if you then choose Available Now from the Show Me menu on the left of screen: instant gratification!)
(Here's how you sort by release date.)
It's worth noting that we've compiled lists for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Pulitzer Prize, too. So when you've burned through all 157 Booker titles, you'll still have something to read.
What do you think of this year's longlist?

How about adding a dedicated area for Newbery winners as well for younger readers (and teachers too!). Keep up the exceptional work. I’ve been listening to ebooks nonstop this summer and loving it!
That’s a great idea! I’ll pass it on to the people who organize the site.
In the meantime, I’m working on bringing in some experts in other subject areas (young adult fiction, romance, etc.) – I’ll make sure to bring in some children’s content as well. Keep watching this space!
Finally, here’s another library blog that may interest you. It’s called Growing a Reader, and it covers all kinds of library and book information of interest to paren’ts, teachers and kids: https://blogs.tpl.ca/kids-books/
Thanks for the tip. I’ll check it out!
