New holds policies for shorter wait times

June 11, 2020 | Wendy B. | Comments (0)

Now that the library's offering curbside pickup of holds, we want to make it faster and easier for you to get the books and movies you want. To give you better access, we've changed our holds policies for new feature DVDs and Best Bets.

New feature DVDs

Until recently, you had to wait six months to place a hold on a new feature DVD.  But that's no longer the case – as of June 12, 2020, as soon as new DVDs appear in the catalogue, you'll be able to place them on hold. (This is a permanent change. )

Note that during the closure, we didn't add any new items to the catalogue. We've just started processing new DVDs again, and they'll start appearing in the catalogue soon. If you don't see them today, check back shortly!

Best Bets

Best Bets are popular, high-demand adult fiction and nonfiction books that we set aside exclusively for browsing in library branches – which means that normally, you can't place them on hold or renew them. But right now you can't browse our shelves in person, so we're making these books both holdable and renewable. This means more access to new and popular books, and shorter holds lists. (This change is temporary, until in-person browsing is available again.)

We hope these changes will help you to get what you want more quickly!
