Library Services Update
We understand the frustration and disruption caused by the recent cybersecurity attack on our systems. Your patience and ongoing support during this challenging period mean the world to us.
Efforts to restore our systems as quickly and securely as possible are in full swing, and we are on track to gradually reinstate services beginning later in January. Our top priorities include the phased restoration of our website and public computers, catalogue and online borrowing services. Services may look a little different when we first bring them back, but we will work to make them as clear and easy to use as possible.
We will continue to keep you informed as we navigate the complexities of our extensive network of 100 library branches, a multi-service data centre, and more than 5,000 staff and public computers through our service restoration work. This requires a gradual and measured approach to reinstate services and fortify TPL against any future cyber threats.
Despite the challenges we are facing, we are heartened by the resilience of our community. Your ongoing use of library services has been inspiring, with more than half a million physical materials borrowed, over 11 million digital checkouts in 2023 and close to 10,000 new library card registrations since the incident began. And thousands of Torontonians continue to visit us in our branches, to connect to the wifi, use our study spaces, borrow and use materials, and attend programs. All this activity fuels our determination to overcome these hurdles as quickly as we can.
Once again, we appreciate your patience and understanding during this very challenging period. We look forward to coming back stronger than ever.
