Library Services Update
As we work to restore our services, our top priorities remain the phased return of our website, catalogue and borrowing services, and public computing. Keeping customers informed of our progress is also critical. Find information about each of these services below.
Website
By the end of this month, customers will see a familiar version of tpl.ca that includes more information on library services and programs, easier access to available digital resources, and friendlier navigation.
While this is significant progress, the following key features will not yet be available: catalogue, search and Your Account. We expect to restore these features later in February.
Borrowing services
Our library materials, both physical and digital, continue to circulate, with over 845,000 physical items and 2.8 million ebooks, audiobooks and magazines borrowed since the cyberattack.
By mid-February, customers who placed holds will be notified by email or phone, depending on their preferred notification method, when their items are ready for pick-up. Also, customers will be able to place, cancel and manage holds with staff support in our branches and by telephone. Finally, one million books and other materials – returns and new items – will be processed and back on library shelves.
Once the catalogue is restored later in February, customers will be able to place, cancel and manage their holds online.
Public computers
We recently restored network connectivity to more than 3,000 staff computers. This needed to happen before reconnecting our 2,000 public computers to the network.
Public computing will return early in February. Once public computers are back online, we’ll focus on printing services. We do not yet have an anticipated return date although we will also be exploring interim solutions for this important service.
The full and safe recovery of our services will take time, and we will continue to keep you updated regularly. Once again, we truly appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging time.
