Now is your chance to get creative with special events!

United Way

Special Events Ideas

Tried and True at Toronto Public Library

Opportunities to make extra bucks for the United Way are everywhere! Special events can be elaborate and well planned, but it’s just as much fun to have spur of the moment challenges, especially if you have colleagues who love a little friendly competition!

One-on-One Challenges

(participants agree that the loser would donate a specific amount to the drive)

Hula-hoop (who can go the longest without dropping the hoop)

Arm or Thumb Wrestle

Push-ups (who can do the most in a specified amount of time)

Scrabble

Timed Sudoku/Crossword/Jumble

Team events

(each team pays a small entry fee to join the competition)

Trivial Pursuit

Parking Lot Obstacle Course/Relay

Bowling

Get-to-know-your-colleagues Contests

(charge $1-2 for each entry form)

Ideas are limitless for this kind of contest, but they usually involve matching each participating staff member to a picture or brief description. The person with the most correct matches wins.

You can match the person to a:

Baby picture

A description of their first job

Their favourite character in a book or movie

A picture of a bookcase in their home

A picture of their pet

Now get to it! And don't forget to send news and/or pictures of your special events to me for posting on the blog! jschmitt@torontopubliclibrary.ca
