Crafting for Teens

Hey all you crafty and creative teens out there!

Are you the type who keeps a sketchpad near you at all times?

Do you find yourself going through crafting magazines for new ideas?

Are you looking for something fun and interesting to make in your spare time this summer?

If you are, welcome to the crafting side of this year's Word Out blog. 🙂

My name is Christine, I'm a Librarian with the Toronto Public Library, and I am interested in everything dealing with crafts and crafting, especially knitting and paper crafts. This summer, I will be posting about the different kinds of crafting resources for teens we have at the library, as well as talking about different crafting events on the go in Toronto. This will include the books and magazines mentioned in this year's Word Out booklist, as well as a few I've found since then.

I might also try my hand at a few of the projects from this year's list, and let you know about my successes and failures. I hope you'll take the time to try some of them too.

So, what do you make when you're feeling creative and crafty?

Let me know. 🙂

  1. Wow this sounds great! I love arts and crafts, they are a great way to make personal and cheap gifts, and channel built up creativity and time over the summer.

  2. Normally when I feel creative and crafty, I like drawing and designing cards for future holidays. Doing arts and crafts help relieve me of any stress and also allows me to do what I enjoy. This summer I am planning to make rings. Do you have any suggestions?

  3. I love to make stuff like Sock Puppets for my little cousin. Unfortunately, I have to make more, because it get dirty or he rips it… Are there even any arts that 2 year old won’t break and its homemade.

  4. Hi Maggie. Thanks for your message. For ring making, one book I would suggest checking out is “Beads, buttons, and bijoux : 58 original designs for making rings, necklaces and bracelets” by Nathalie Delhaye. It looks like it has lots of different designs in it for all sorts of jewelry including rings, and how to make them with lots of different materials. I hope this helps.
