Music + Books = Rock Out
Music…is everything from a blaring concert where you feel your innards vibrate to the bass to an experience of quiet minimal sounds.
Love concerts but can't play a tune? Try concert photography! That's a recommended book.
Craving graphic novels? And love crude, rude punk rock history or the Beatles? We've got the books for you.
Want to know how to keep your band from biting each other's head's off? Punk Rock Etiquette tells you why smashing your band-mates guitars to smithereens isn't going to resolve the problem.
Or want a light romance with a band on the side? Got it.
Just want to try making your own guitar for $30 or less? Yes you can! I've used the How To book on the book list to create a banjo – did it succeed? With relative success.
I'm Ray – an amateur musician (harp and banjo) and along with super keen librarian, Alice, created the suggested music related books.
Got any to recommend? Read any that you loved? Tell us! AND rock out this summer. Really.

If you’re in need of a hilarious survey of Western classical music from Palestrina to Cage, I quite enjoyed “Bach, Beethoven, and the Boys” as an informative and entertaining introduction! 🙂
That IS a great read, Edmee!
I found so many that were only in paperback that I couldn’t put on this list but are really fun reads. One I really enjoyed was “So Punk Rock,” about a boy in a Jewish day school who is obsessed wit punk and cajoles some fellow students into starting a band. It’s funny, has great graphic elements sprinkled through it, and has a good dose of heart.
I read a lot of music books, so I’ll spill some others as we go along through the summer!
Music and books, my 2 favourite things. Pretty much sums up my summers too.
My friend had a great book called something along the lines of “How to make your own rockin’ band”. I can’t quite remember but if anyone wants to look it up, read the book. Really worth your while
I LOVE Music!!! My favorite type of music would probably have to be Classical. My favourite composer is Mozart. That is because Mozart is so wonderful and he was very talented at such a young age. Most people my age would like hip-hop or rock more but I am really into Mozart’s music. 🙂 I also love to read books.
