Food Our Favorite Characters Eat
Have you ever look at food references in a particular book? I like it when authors use food in their stories. It is fun to re-read food scenes and see what characters are eating. Sometimes the protagonist is portrayed to eat a lot, other times they go without food.
Famous cartoon characters with dangerous food addicitons that come to mind are Cookie Monster, Winnie the Pooh and Homer Simpsons. These compulsive sweet eaters are most likely to be diabetic. Teenage Ninja Turtles are pizza-obsessed superheroes while Samwell Tarly from Game of Thrones simply enjoys good food.
But leaving television characters aside. Let's take a look at some characters in fictional works.
1. Poor Oliver Twist is so hungry, he begs for more.
2. Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory loves Willy Wonka's chocolate.
3. Jane Eyre had burnt porridge at school.
4. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout had to dressed up as a giant ham in a Halloween pageant.
5. Tony Chu, a detective from Chew gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. Now that's a culinary talent.
6. Rose Edelstein from The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake can'taste the emotions of humans who prepared her food.
7. Heather Wells in a mystery series by Meg Cabot is a size 12 character who wishes to be smaller. However, she likes food too much to give it up.
8. Hunger Games Trilology mentions Katniss and her favorite lamb stew.
9. Harry Potter tried pumpkin pastries for the first time when he met Cho Chang.
10. From the Twilight series, we know vampires do not eat anything but werewolves have a big appetite.

Every one has to remember the classic Stone Soup. I remember the teachers even had us all make some at school one day. I hope that stone was sanitized…wouldn’t want to try that nowadays. Or the Redwall series where they describe all the animals and their feasts…Lord of the rings the feasts the dwarfs had…Magic Pudding by Norman Lindsay the more pudding you ate the more it always reforms to be eaten again and finally James and the Giant Peach.
I love all the food scenes from Harry Potter. Whenever I read about their feasts, food they get on the train, or things they get from Hogsmeade, I get really hungry. I’d love to try butterbeer, chocolate frogs, and eat pretty much everything they eat.
My friend went to the Harry Potter theme park in Universal Studios and brought back Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. It was pretty fun to eat them and see how they tasted. Of course, the flavours weren’t as elaborate as the ones in the books.
That is so cool! I would love to eat them! But too bad the beans aren’t strange flavors…
There were some strange flavours. There was sausage, earwax, and soap, but no vomit, boogey, pepper, and such. I guess it could be a good thing though…
The last book I had read was ” Blink”. In that book the characters were just spirits. Both the main character were down in coma but, was communicating each other in romance with their soul and spirit. They’re original body was left on the bed. So I assume that if there was no body to take care off, there would be no food to eat. They were in coma, so it might have been that the nurse fed them by those pipes inside your body. Rather than that, they seemed fine without food.
That is a lot of weird flavors! I guess it is a good thing due to bringing the book to life and literally giving you a taste of what they have!
Mine would have to be from the book The Girl of Fire and Thorns, because Elisa (the heroine)had a bad relationship with food and she ate all these great pastries and foods and it sounded so good. Also, I liked the scene from The Little Princess (the movie, though it’s based on a book), where she and her friend were sent to bed without dinner and had to imagine being full and the detaails of their feast always make me hungry. Especially in the movie when they actually do get to eat it.
vampires do have a favorite food. It’s called blood.
The novel, “Room” talks quite a lot about the importance of food and the need to ration. One of the best novels too.
Ron eating A LOT of chicken even though his best friend is missing.
