OK, most know The Weakerthans (John's band) for its famous song "I Hate Winnipeg". His latest book of poetry and lyrics is beautiful. Plainly titled, "Lyrics & Poems, 1997-2012", it is touching. Full of depth, detail, and empathy, Mr. Sampson really can zero-in on the essence of a feeling, place, or circumstance.

I think Ed Sheeran is a beautiful songwriter as well as singer.
I don’t really know any singers or songwriters that are poetic.
