Genesis Alpha
Genesis Alpha by Rune Michaels (2007)
I just discovered this book over the Easter long weekend. Although it isn’t super recent, I thought it would be a great addition to my booklist. It was a fast read, about a murder mystery, intertwined with issues of morality and genetic research.
It is the story of two brothers, Max and Josh. Josh loves Max. He idealizes his older brother and wants to be just like him. Max on the other hand, wouldn’t be around if it weren’t for Josh. Josh was conceived so that his stem cells could be used to save a dying Max. Not only are the two brothers super similar in their mannerisms and looks, they also have the same interests, which strengthens their bond. But when Max is arrested for murder, Josh is left questioning that bond. Did he really know his brother as well as he thought he did? Is he somehow responsible for Max’s actions, after all, there would be no Max if it weren’t for him.
The author raises some great issues that are relevant to our day and age, and really gives the reader a chance to explore these issues and think of what they would do if there were in Josh’s shoes.
If you have read it, or if you get a chance to read it, tell us what you think.
