Mini-Writing Contest # 5 — July 30 to August 4

July 30, 2014 | Christine | Comments (11)

Hey everyone! Welcome back for Mini-Writing Contest Number 5. 🙂

To start, let me ask you a few questions. Where do you like to keep things? Do you have a special place where you hide the things you want to keep forever? Is it out in the open where everyone can see, or is it hidden in a place that only you can find?

Listed below are ten containers that can be used to store things. Pick one from the list, or make up your own, and write down what kinds of things you would place inside of it.

Goldfish bowl
Golf bag
Knapsack
Pencil case
Cardboard box
Rubber boot
Coffee cup
Pocket
Lunch box
Steamer trunk

The items inside the containers can be anything you’d like, big or small, real or imagined, and you can name as many as you want. So, what kinds of things would you keep?

Please keep in mind the following contest rules:
1. You have to live in Toronto to win this contest.
2. You have to provide a valid e-mail address so we can contact you if you win a prize (see privacy statement for more info)
3. Your entry must be submitted by Monday at 11:59pm to be considered to win.
4. Winners will be announced the following Tuesday.

Have fun!

Your name, your e-mail address, the books you read and your thoughts about them are your personal information. Why do we need your personal information here?  Well, we want to publish your reviews, and we need your name and e-mail address to help administer the contest.  The Public Libraries Act is the law that lets us do this.  We'll be protecting your privacy every step of the way, but if you have any questions about how we're going to do that, you can contact TPL's Privacy & Records Management Officer, 789 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON, M4W 2G8, 416-395-5658 or by e-mail at gnettlefold@torontopubliclibrary.ca

  1. i would keep my special things such as my diary key + my diary, a special super mini phone that if you touch will turn bigger and a magic lolly-pop that when you eat it makes 4 of your wishes come true only if they have something to do with reading in my blue pillow case!:)

  2. I would keep my portable dimension black hole which can’transport me to anywhere when I imagine the place, I’ ll put it in my washing machine which can make the portable spin and it serves as an engine to the black hole, although I would paint the black hole into a pink hole and make them into stickers where I would put in all of my friends bags, so when they dream of me , they all get transported to me like a delivery express order;)

  3. Inside a small hole, beside my electric fence there is a key. A key which opens a very special wood engraved box that a mysterious person with a strange mustache had given to me one rainy day. When I open the box, I find a message written in Binary telling me to book seat number 14 at Carnegie Hall. When it’s intermission, and the orchestra has stopped playing, I go outside, where a musician descretely slips a paper into my hand. I take the sheet of paper to a pianist and he plays Sonata in C major K545 by Mozart. Which makes me go back to my house and search inside my top secret safe behind the washing machine for my classical music CD. Doing this, I find a rather mysterious handbag with a small note inside. I read: Well wishes. Singned, Person with a strange mustache.

  4. I like to keep my most useful things in my knapsack, where they are always close…things like a pack of tissues, phone charger, sunglasses and a spare fork make a really big difference, every day.

  5. In a cardboard box, I would keep my most beloved things. These include my medals and plaques that I won in school and clubs, my scrapbook with all my memories of friends and family, a huge science encyclopedia because I love science, a steel keychain with my named craved in it, a drawing kit, my phone and charger, a camera, a peacock feather and lastly, my favourite science-fiction books.

  6. I would collect and keep all my pennies in a fishbowl. Then when I’m seventy I will smash the bowl with bliss and sell all the pennies because they will be extinct and worth a fortune by then. Other than that, I like to keep most things in my mind.

  7. My phone unfortunately does not have a case around it. And I drop it really often. When I do, the back always pops off and flies a couple meters from me. There is some space in my phone which would let me pack a whole lot of glitter in it. Heh heh. The next time my phone falls, I hope the someone will help me fetch my parts because there will be a massive glitter pinata explosion. Man – I love a good pinata. Especially one which I can drop over and over….limited to a number of drops though.

  8. I would first begin with a decorated cardboard box, but a very large box. With that large box inside, I would like to keep Harry Potter and all of the main characters inside. The cardboard box will become their new home, where I am able to just take them out of the box to learn to become a wizard. Not only are all of the real characters inside the box, I also have stacks of books and my own personal wand.

  9. I’d imagine a boxed glass encasing to display something to attain, something desirable. It’d be a spectacle, but it’d be my spectacle. Everyone has their own ambitions and these would be mine. All aspirations should be emphasized, so why mustn’t I exhibit mine?
A Panacea- this would be rather handy, but also extremely powerful. This defines a person; whether their intentions are for fame, greed or simply compassion.
A Brush- for eternally messy hair. What’s life without trying to never have a bad hair day?
A Key- that leads to nowhere. The perpetual search for a fitting keyhole.
A Cloud- my very own pet cloud. I very much enjoy the sound of thunderous rain. And the feeling of it’s patter too. I love skittles too.
    A Book- Duh.
A Love- in whatever form it happens to come in. When humans perennial fear is oblivion, it seems that love is a consolation prize. But it really isn’t and it’s not for granted.

  10. I have many things of which I like to keep with me. Unfortunately many people steal and therefore I need something more handy than say the average fanny pack. However, I have decided to instil the idea of an illusion pocket. It looks to you as something quite boring and normal – however, you can keep with you the most magical of items. This illusion pocket would cause you to have the benefits of keeping valuable items, such a genie perhaps, safe – and away from nosy cannot-find-a-good-genie-these-days snoopers.
