Half Life of Molly Pierce
Molly Pierce thinks she’s losing her mind. In reality, she’s just losing time, and memories. She blanks out at seemingly random moments, and wakes up doing something different later. Maybe she was in history class early in the morning and wakes up just as she’s brushing her teeth before she heads off to bed at night. Or maybe she wakes up in her car, driving down a familiar road with a boy tailing her on a motorcycle. Stranger things have happened to her, really, but this event seems to set the ball rolling for the shock of Molly’s life. Mabel, Molly’s alter, finally deems her ready to see what’s been happening during the blackouts.  The only question is: can Molly handle it?

Summer is in the air, and do you know what that means? It means that there will be at least one day that you will have nothing to do. When you can fry an egg on a car because of the heat, and your only saviour is that fan or AC system (which occasionally decides to stop working). The cicadas will the nonstop soundtrack you never asked for, and even thinking about the outside world makes you sweat. These days are a perfect time to read The Half Life of Molly Pierce. The book would not let me do anything else while I was in the middle of it; each sentence had me begging for more, and the end of chapter cliff-hangers were not helping me go about my day. Unless you have amazing will power, you may need a solid chunk of time to absorb this book in all its psychological mystery glory. The book is a quick read, only clocking in around 240 pages, but I feel like the journey with Molly and Mabel was much longer. Some parts of the novel did confuse me—most of it was supposed to have that effect, but sometimes the narrative switches from Mabel to Molly without so much of a word. I absolutely adored the style of writing in this book, and it was easy for me to sink into Molly’s mind. The message I got from this book really hit home, because I think that we all have one day where we think we don’t deserve something like happiness.  But we all come to realize, just like Molly does, that we do deserve it.

  1. very intriguing…I would hate it if I was in that situation, I would definitely lose my mind. I feel like if I were to read this, I would be on edge for days.
